Emerging photovoltaic (PV) technologies (such as those based on metal halide perovskites) offer many benefits over the traditional silicon-based solar panel in terms of lightweight and flexibility. More importantly, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of these emerging PV technologies is already approaching that of Si-based PVs. Despite these advantages, the key challenge to these emerging photovoltaic technologies is their inferior stability. The stability issue with these emerging photovoltaic technologies comes from a key component in the solar cells, i.e. the charge transport layers (the layers that help to extract charge carriers out of the solar cells). Fortunately, we have recently solved the stability issue of the charge-transport layer by developing a novel technique that boosts solar cell stability tenfold without compromising the PCE: our recent breakthrough (Science, 2022, 377, 495-501; PCT application No. EP2022/053289) has provided the best efficiency with the most excellent stability. We founded LinXole AB in November 2021 to commercialize our present products. To date, we have obtained funding from a Swedish business incubator (LEAD), EIT Raw Materials (EU), and the Swedish Energy Agency to assist with market verification. We have had more than half a dozen encouraging responses from researchers from various countries eager to purchase our products. We also work with certain perovskite PV start-ups, like Sauletech in Poland and Solliance in Switzerland, and they are interested in our materials. We want to launch a two-phase marketing campaign for the LinXole, focusing on various customer segments: researchers in Phase 1 and PV companies in Phase 2. The research team behind the company comes from Linköping University including experts with different expertise. Particularly, the leader-member of LinXole, Prof. Feng Gao, received the ERC Starting Grant in 2016, the ERC consolidator grant in 2022, and is now a Wallenberg Academy Fellow and SSF Future Research Leader.
