Open Call to improve the Security of AI Systems

The open call, funded under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme, is aimed at contributing to secure services, processes and products, as well as to create robust digital infrastructures capable to resist and counter cyber-attacks and hybrid threats. In particular, the main objective is to improve the security of robust AI systems.

The development of powerful Artificial Intelligence applications has raised concers over the security, robustness of the AI algorithms (including AI at the edge), including the risks of adversarial machine learning and data poisoning. Thus, it is important to promote security-compliant AI algorithms, leading to possible certification schemes in the future.

Successful proposals should contribute to the achievement of one or more of the following impacts:

  • Strengthened EU cybersecurity capacities and European Union sovereignty in digital technologies
  • More resilient digital infrastructures, systems and processes
  • Increased software, hardware and supply chain security
  • Secured disruptive technologies
  • Smart and quantifiable security assurance and certification shared across the EU
  • Reinforced awareness and a common cyber security management and culture.

More specifically, Projects’ results are expected to contribute to the following outcomes:

  • Security-by-design concept and resilience to adversarial attacks;
  • Inclusion of context awareness in machine learning in order to boost resiliency.

Consortia composition:

  • at least 1 independent legal entity established in a Member State; and
  • at least 2 other independent legal entities, each established in different Member
    States or Associated Countries.

Funding:

  • up to €6.000.000
  • The indicative number of grants is 2

The planned opening date for receiving proposals is 29 June 2023

The deadline to submit applications is set to 20 November 2024, 17:00 Brussels Time

Incremental learning represents a revolutionary leap in the field of AI. Contrary to traditional machine learning, which necessitates vast quantities of labeled data to train a model, incremental learning enables an AI system to perpetually learn from new data derived from our cyber clones. Our threat intelligence knowledge every without experiencing loss. This becomes particularly crucial when detecting zero-day attacks, which are unknown and lack existing signatures or patterns. We're proud to report a precision rate of 99.8% in the detection of unknown, zero-day attacks, a testament to the efficacy of our incremental learning approach. Further validating our innovative approach, our research paper on this topic has been approved and recognized by the esteemed US Springer Science journal, a top-ranked publication in the AI research community. This recognition affirms the novelty and impact of our work in the evolving landscape of AI technology
