PRODUCTS / PROJECTS
Environment assessment is increasingly acknowledged as an important planning tool having an impact in the health of citizens. As an example, the health and wellbeing of people living in cities are greatly improved where natural green spaces are present in their neighbourhood. With tangible benefits such as an improvement in air quality combined with cognitive effects of being in urban green spaces, urban trees and other green infrastructure are becoming a priority for city authorities and citizens to support healthy living urban areas.
As an example, urban residents suffering from stress experience less anxiety when they have a view of trees. Trees also reduce the symptoms of asthma by intercepting harmful particles. Air pollution has been shown to have an important effect on cognitive capabilities of children.
GreenDex (https://greendex.es/) will translate vegetation observed from satellite data to an easily interpretable value (Gx), quantifying the vegetation present around you. The higher the green intensity of the index (Gx), the healthier!
The evaluation of the product will allow us to estimate the potential health and wellbeing benefits. The collected data would include indicators on general health, mental health, well-being, neurophysiological assessments, and time spent in and perceived quality of the green spaces, such as: use of green spaces, visual exposure to green spaces, satisfaction with green spaces, perceived mental health, self-reported mental health and wellbeing, perceived stress, self-reported anxiety, self-reported depression, current asthma and/or allergies…
To be able to detect a change in health and wellbeing indicators that could be attributed to the vegetation, data are collected in different surroundings for each green intensity index (Gx).
