A European approach to respond to prevailing skills and training challenges faced by the blockchain sector
Europe is in a leading position in many sectors that can successfully apply blockchain or other Distributed Ledger Technologies. At the same time, the lack of digital skills throughout Europe threatens to hamper and slow down innovation.
In this context, the core mission of CHAISE is to develop a strategic approach on blockchain skills development for Europe. CHAISE will deliver future-proof training solutions, in order to tackle blockchain skill shortages and to respond to the current and future skill needs of the European Blockchain workforce.
As a Sector Skills Alliance, CHAISE addresses the growing demand for blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) skills in Europe, developing six main objetives:
- An institutionally validated European Blockchain Skills Strategy.
- A forecasting mechanism to anticipate future blockchain skill needs.
- The first-ever “Blockchain specialist” occupational profile.
- An innovative 5-semester Blockchain VET Programme in 11 EU languages.
- Transnational mobility schemes for Blockchain students & professionals.
- A European Blockchain ecosystem.

The CHAISE project contributes to two pillars of DIGITAL SME’s Skills Strategy 2030 by providing “training and education” as well as “ecosystem leadership”.
Firmly consolidating DIGITAL SME’s role as a top player in digital skills, DIGITAL SME is the Communications Manager of the CHAISE project. Our primary role is to increase the project’s visibility by managing all its communications channels and to expand sectoral collaboration. Besides, DIGITAL SME contributes to market-based intelligence gathering of blockchain skills needs and supply and engages its Task Force Blockchain & DLT to validate the CHAISE results.
Based on the results of the skill needs analysis, DIGITAL SME participated in the development of the European Blockchain Skills Strategy.
