Funding opportunity – Applications for the SBS Call for Standardisation Experts 2023

Small Business Standards (SBS) launched an open call to appoint experts with technical expertise in standardisation topic relevant for SMEs. Experts will represent the interests of SMEs in Technical Committees (TCs), Sub-Committees (SCs) and Working Groups (WGs) of CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, ISO, and IEC. This is a paid position. The call includes a list of sectoral and horizontal standardisation priorities, including ICT priorities. This list in not exhaustive, and if you think that a topic or a TC/WG is important for SMEs to get active in, you can still apply.

Selected experts main duties include:

  1. representing the European SME position and being the representative of European SMEs in their technical body and/or working group.
  2. attending the meetings of the technical body for which they are selected and contribute to the standardisation work by submitting technical comments and proposals. Willingness to travel is required.
  3. reporting to and liaising with the relevant SBS Expert coordinator.
  4. developing an Action Plan at the beginning of the year providing an overview of the main work and objectives for 2023 and two Activity reports.
  5. use the SBS SME Compatibility Test on draft standards and other documents under development and review in their WG
  6. exchanging information with SBS member organisations and other experts as needed.
  7. participating in relevant SBS Working Groups to gather inputs and agree on the European SME position.
  8. participating in at least one Expert meeting organised by the SBS secretariat per year
  9. contributing to the SBS newsletter or other SBS activities when appropriate.

Experts will be appointed for a one year term. There are two types of applications, one for new experts and one for existing experts who wish to renew their appointment. For more information about eligibility and selection criteria, and applying process please click here.

Experts need a letter of support from a recognised SME organization such as DIGITAL SME. For DIGITAL SME to endorse your application and prepare a letter of support, we kindly request that you fill in the application (Annex 1 for new applicants, or Annex 2 for renewing applicants) and send it with an updated CV and letter of motivation. The CV should show your experience with SMEs and standardisation, while the letter of motivation should explain why you would be interested in representing SBS and European SMEs and the competences and qualifications that would support your selection.
