Open Call for SMEs to Access AI Factories
The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking has opened access calls to its AI Factories, offering tailored high‑performance computing resources to support innovation in artificial intelligence across Europe. These facilities provide advanced HPC infrastructure to enable the development of large‑scale AI models, promote adoption of AI technologies, and build expertise in ethical and cutting‑edge artificial intelligence. The initiative targets both industrial innovation and scientific research, supporting a wide range of AI use cases.
The AI Factories calls are structured to meet the needs of users with different compute requirements and levels of expertise. Under the AI for Industrial Innovation track, three access modes are available. For those focused on research, the AI for Science and Collaborative Projects mode supports scientific and collaborative AI projects, particularly those involving machine learning, ethical AI, foundation models, and generative AI such as large language models. Access is provided free of charge to eligible applicants.
Eligibility criteria
- Open to European industry users including AI startups and SMEs.
- Public and private organisations for AI, particularly those involved in publicly funded research or collaborative projects under Horizon Europe or the Digital Europe Programme.
- Applicants must demonstrate a need for high‑performance computing resources appropriate to the chosen access mode (playground, fast lane, or large‑scale).
Access modes
- Playground Access: Limited HPC resources for entry‑level users (quick access within ~2 working days).
- Fast Lane Access: Up to 50,000 GPU hours for users already familiar with HPC (approval within ~4 working days).
- Large Scale Access: More than 50,000 GPU hours for substantial AI model training and applications, with several predefined cut‑off dates.
