Call for Applications - "CRA Standards Guide for SMEs" - European DIGITAL SME Alliance

Call for Contributors:

Guide on vulnerability handling and cyber resilience principles - supporting CRA compliance for SMEs

About the Call for Contributors

The European DIGITAL SME Alliance and Small Business Standards are developing a practical guide to help SMEs developing products with digital elements prepare for the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). The CRA introduces new legal obligations for cybersecurity-by-design across virtually all connected products, directly impacting many SMEs. However, SMEs often lack the in-house capacity to track standardisation developments or understand how to use standards to demonstrate compliance.

This guide aims to bridge that gap by providing clear, structured, and practical information that links standardisation with EU regulation, making standards accessible, usable, and inclusive for SMEs.

To ensure the guide reflects real-world expertise, DIGITAL SME is assembling a group of standardisation and cybersecurity experts to contribute through writing, case studies, or peer review. We are looking for contributors with hands-on experience in:

  • Cybersecurity risk management
  • Vulnerability handling
  • SBOM (Software Bill of Materials) creation and management

Priority will be given to contributors who have worked directly on developing standards for the CRA and have firsthand experience addressing SME-specific challenges in standards adoption.

Responsibilities of selected contributors:

Depending on their area of expertise and availability, contributors may be asked to:

  • Draft or co-author one or more sections of the guide
  • Provide input for case studies based on their real experience or most relevant examples to SMEs
  • Review and provide feedback on draft content produced by other contributors
  • Validate the accuracy and practical relevance of the final guide

What contributors can expect

Contributors will be credited as expert authors or reviewers in the published guide. Their participation in this initiative will be promoted through both DIGITAL SME’s and SBS’s communication channels and partner network to increase the visibility and profile of the selected experts to a broad range of stakeholders, from the European Commission to SMEs. There will also be a dedicated webinar to promote the published guide.
