Sustainable Digital Multiservice Cities: a New Workgroup in ETSI

A new ETSI workgroup named Sustainable Digital Multiservice Cities (SDMS) was instituted at a dedicated meeting in Bordeaux, FR on April 6th 2016.
As stated in the Terms of Reference this working group will be responsible for the creation, development and maintenance of standards on the “Relationship between deployment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems and implementation of services within cities and communities”. It will work on deployment of ICT systems, networks and sites allowing interactions for data capture (both data consumers and providers) and management of data within each service and between different functions and services, and will produce:
- Standardisation work on specific engineering of SDMC ICT;
- Specifications of topology and functional requirements;
- Specifications of functional and physical characteristics of interfaces;
- Standardisation work on operational sustainability management.
The appointment of the workgroup chairman is scheduled on April 26th at the Plenary meeting of the technical committee Access, Terminals, Transmission and Multiplexing at ETSI Headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, FR.
The creation of SDMC workgroup is in full correspondence with the European Union vision for ICT research and innovation and developing policies to improve the quality of life of citizens and make cities more sustainable in view of Europe’s 2020 targets.
