NOI Techpark joins the Tech Sovereignty Catalogue, in a bid to build Europe’s first digitally sovereign innovation district

  • NOI Techpark, South Tyrol’s innovation district, has joined the Tech Sovereignty Catalogue, an initiative that maps sovereign digital solutions in Europe. Through its commitment to becoming a digitally sovereign science and technology park, NOI Techpark demonstrates that European alternatives can successfully power innovative infrastructures.

  • As a leading European innovation district connecting research, industry and public authorities, NOI Techpark serves as a living lab for sovereign digital technologies and will help accelerate their adoption across strategic sectors.

  • By leveraging the Tech Sovereignty Catalogue’s ecosystem of sovereign European technology providers, NOI Techpark will contribute to building a digital stack while developing a best practice that organisations across Europe can follow to reduce strategic dependencies and enhance competitiveness.

NOI Techpark, also a member of the European DIGITAL SME Alliance via the Italian Digital SME Alliance, has joined the Tech Sovereignty Catalogue, the European initiative showcasing and promoting sovereign digital solutions developed in Europe.

As of 2025, NOI Techpark brings together 84 companies, 41 start-ups, 3 research institutes and 4 university faculties, creating a vibrant innovation ecosystem with around 2,400 researchers, entrepreneurs, students and innovation professionals. The campus also provides access to 70 laboratories and prototyping facilities, supporting research, technology development and collaboration between academia and industry.

The partnership marks a further step in NOI Techpark’s commitment to strengthening Europe’s innovation capacity and supporting the deployment of sovereign European technologies across the digital value chain.

By aiming to become a fully digitally sovereign science and technology park, NOI Techpark positions itself among the organisations actively contributing to Europe’s technological resilience and strategic autonomy. By bringing together different stakeholders within a real-world innovation environment, the innovation district provides opportunities to test, validate and showcase European solutions while accelerating their adoption across strategic sectors.

Through access to the ecosystem of sovereign European technology providers gathered in the Tech Sovereignty Catalogue, NOI Techpark will further advance its transition toward a sovereign technology stack. The organisation is assessing and integrating European solutions aligned with sovereignty principles, with the goal of increasing transparency, interoperability, resilience and strategic autonomy across its digital infrastructure.

Beyond its own transformation, NOI Techpark aims to turn this experience into a practical and replicable model. By documenting lessons learned, implementation approaches and evaluation criteria, it seeks to develop a “Pathway to Sovereignty” that organisations across Europe can follow to reduce strategic dependencies, strengthen resilience and enhance competitiveness.

“At NOI Techpark, we believe innovation and technological sovereignty must go hand in hand. Through our collaboration with the Tech Sovereignty Catalogue, we want not only to advance our own transition towards a sovereign digital infrastructure, but also to contribute to a stronger European ecosystem and provide a practical example that others can follow.”

Lisa Köllensperger – EU Funding Advisor at NOI Techpark

The collaboration with both the Tech Sovereignty Catalogue and the European DIGITAL SME Alliance will contribute to the refinement and alignment of sovereignty criteria, supporting the establishment of shared benchmarks that can inform technology adoption decisions across Europe.

Through this partnership, NOI Techpark further strengthens its role as a European innovation hub and contributes to building a more resilient, competitive, and technologically independent future for Europe.
